Curriculum

Everything in a Montessori Environment is child-oriented and has a specific purpose for his development. The Montessori material is divided into different areas.

Exercises of Practical Life give the child an opportunity to independently take care of himself and the environment; develop sense of responsibility and the fine and gross motor movements. Children work on tasks involving hand and eye coordination, thus preparing the intellectual and fine motor skills used in writing and creative work. Practical life exercises include pouring and spooning of solids and liquids; washing; polishing metal; dressing.

Sensorial materials stimulate and refine the aesthetic, tactile, auditory, olfactory and taste senses for further development in perceiving dimensions to prepare the child for language and mathematics.

Social behavior, grace and courtesy are introduced through good example and mutual respect.

Arithmetic material familiarises the child with the physical impression of size and quantity before going into the abstract idea of numbers.

Montessori Language Materials (sandpaper letters, insets, Movable Alphabet boxes etc.) group work, books, tapes and songs provide a strong phonetic approach to writing and reading.

Geography and Culture material gives the child an insight into the physical world.

Science is presented by giving the child the opportunity for sensorial exploration through the use of the botany, zoology, geology and physical science materials. Practical caring for plants and animals creates and nurtures interest in Science and respect for life.

Music and Art give an opportunity to the child for creative and joyful self-expression.
