Children are always fascinated and attracted by various things. They love to satisfy their curiosity and until completely satisfied would want to possess their object of desire. It could be a feather, a shining stone, a shell or even a small part of the Montessori Material. We have very interesting ways to get back the piece of equipment without embarrassing the child or making him feel ashamed with an accusation.
When we realize something is missing and it could only have gone into some bag or pocket through a tiny hand we simply sit together and look around pretending to search for something missing. First we check our OWN pockets saying “It may have been mistakenly put in our pocket”. Still further, we say “Well, if it is not found we cannot work with that material anymore”.
More often than not the missing piece is back in place.
